“Eat a live frog first thing in the morning and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day”. Mark Twain.
Brian Tracy is the expert on frog eating and he says there are 2 rules.
1. If you have to eat two frogs, eat the ugliest one first.
2. If you have to eat a live frog at all, it doesn’t pay to sit and look at it for very long.
Frogs are those tasks, jobs, things you have to do but they are big, ugly and a bit scary. So we put them off. We make a cup of tea, we work on that presentation, we talk to a colleague…we do anything but eat the frog!
BUT the frog is still there. It’s looking at you. It gets bigger and uglier and you spend precious energy trying to avoid it, not think about it. The trouble with frogs is that they are distracting and they demand your attention even though you want to think about something else.
And what happens at the end of the day when you haven’t dealt with that frog? It sometimes hops in your bag and comes home with you. It distracts you from your family and can wake you up at night. No one wants to look at a frog on their pillow right?
So get it done. Eat that frog. Eat it fast and do it first!
Zero in on the most challenging tasks and get them done first. You’ll get more done faster, you’ll focus better and you’ll get the right things done.
Imagine what you will do with all your extra time.
